Just wondering, is it a sport or not? I am in taekwondo and I heard people say it isn't a sport. Well if it isn't a sport why is it in the Summer Olympics?

Sport - an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature, as racing, baseball, tennis, golf, bowling, wrestling, boxing, hunting, fishing, etc.

Seems to fit the definition.  I would say it is.

Thank you, I have been fighting the anti-taekwondo is a sport crowd at the dorm for little over a month. It isn't as if they knew that it was in the Olympics.

Yea martial arts is definitely a sport.  A lot of people go by the notion that if it doesn't have a ball, puck, or something like that...than it isn't a sport.  Doing Taewkwondo moves in a room might not seem like a sport, but take those idiots to a tournament and they'll see how much of a physical and competitive sport it really is.  Taking Taekwondo classes is just like football players lifting in the weight room...it's just a form of training for the competition later on.

Taekwondo is definitely a sport. I have to draw the line at something like poker, yes it is about as much of a sport as chess is (not saying I don't enjoy them both). I hate it when people try to argue that Nascar is a legitimate sport but something like Taekwondo isn't.
