I know a few colleges have already started back up.  For those of you who have already started, how much did your textbooks end up setting you back?   read2

The thing that makes me mad is that our bookstore doesn't give their employees any discount on textbooks. I ended up forking over about $479.  Angry

Wow that's rough. It's really unfair how bad book companies are ripping off college students. Nowadays a new edition is published every couple of years, which really diminshes the used book market which not only means that you can't buy used book for much cheaper, but also that your books become worthless after your class finishes.

Agreed.  I usually wait until the first day of class to see if the professor will even be using the book.  Then I'll just go to half.com or some other site and order them on there.  You can usually find them much cheaper.  I use the bookstore as a last resort if its a rare edition that I can't find anywhere else.

A little over 300 hundred dollars. It definitely hurt my wallet.  And I'm not even full time this semester!

I was a bit relieved though because even though I paid more because the books were all new edition, that means I almost guaranteed they'll be bought back.

I ended up spending a little over $500, and that's without all the extras I had to buy for my classes, like notecards, a calculator, and some classes required binders and other stuff. It all added up.  I'm paying for college on my own, and all I can say is thank God for student loans, otherwise I'd be suffering, rents hard enough to pay!  Undecided

A little bit over 300.  And I'm only taking 4 classes.  One of which I don't need a text for. =[

The most I have spent on language and upper division texts are about 230 dollars. Man, at least I have grants and loans that help pay for this. I would hate to ask for help from my family.
