Do you agree with this bill? It started effecting incoming freshman this fall for all public Texas Universities or colleges.

Is it really fair for those students that aren't abusing it?  Do you think 6 is too low?

Even if you aren't in a Texas school, think if you were, how would you feel?

Just trying to get feedback on how others feel. =]

I read the article, but I'm not sure I understand it fully.

Prior to this bill going into effect students would sign up for say 8 classes, and go to them all.  Then they would drop the 3 hardest and keep the 5 they liked.  Now this bill would only allow students to make 6 drops.  However, is this per semester, per year or per college term (4 years)?

A couple questions also come to mind such as don't most schools have a core curriculum and then also a major curriculum?  So for freshman/sophomore year you take your general education and junior/senior year you take your major courses.  So regardless if they dropped these courses one semester, wouldn't they then need to take them again at some point?

How late in the semester did you used to be able to drop after the "shopping" period? At my school even if you drop a class after the drop period you still get a W and often times that can look worse than an F so people try to avoid it. If you're only allowed six drops for you whole college career I think that 8 would be a more appropriate number just so you get at least 1 a semester. I've personally only dropped one class after the drop period.
