Slippery Rock University (located in PA) is giving 8,500 students RFID tags that work with mobile devices in order to make payments on everything from copies in the library to dinner at the cafeteria.  These tags will also work at participating merchants in that town.

Just wait till they start wanting to put RFID chips in our bodies.  They're already in clothing and other products.  They'll probably gain acceptance through small things like this.  They are the next bar code.  I'm sure we can expect the gov't to use the "war on terror" excuse to start putting them in us for tracking, identification, and other stuff.  I know I personally will not approve of these chips (in us), but the majority of America who are brainwashed by the media will accept them..if not demand them.
