Did anyone else watch the game?

I really can't understand why Notre Dame gets such high pre season rankings, but always performs poorly during the games.

It's over. After 44 years and three overtimes.

Navy finally beat Notre Dame 46-44 in triple overtime on Saturday, ending the Fighting Irish's NCAA-record winning streak against the Midshipmen at 43 games.

If we judge from their recruits then they should be ranked highly. They are typically in the top ten if not top five in recruiting blue chip players. It is also partly a function of their history, recent and long term. It may well be that they are not in the top 25 next season coming off this horrific season. They didn't exactly stink it up the last couple of years. For whatever reasons the wheels fell off the bus this year.
Trust me when I say that there is no love lost between me and ND. This is as objective as I am likely to be concerning them. Every fiber in my football being wants to laugh long and hard.

Perhaps their coaching system needs to be reworked?

I agree that they used to be a great team*, but I think that after a few seasons of performing how they are, those pre season rankings should be looked at.  Supposedly this has been the worst season in the team's history.  Last time they took the title was in the 80's correct?

A lot of the preseason and even in season rankings has to do with politics and money and not just skill level. A team like Notre Dame in recent years has received several very good recruits but the couple of seasons before that they got almost nothing. Notre Dame is a nationally recognized team and if you ask people who don't follow college football to name a good team most people will put Notre Dame on that list. This is why Notre Dame is able to make millions of dollars by selling it's television rights to NBC. In turn since NBC is making such a large investment in Notre Dame they are going to push hard for a high ranking for Notre Dame. It is probably true that a highly ranked Notre Dame team will get more people to watch the game across the country than any other highly ranked football team so it makes sense that they would always rank Notre Dame higher than they actually are. This is probably the reason why Notre Dame always seems to get it's clocked cleaned in every bowl game they play in. They will always get an invite to a bowl they shouldn't really be playing in except for the fact the they wear gold helmets because the people hosting the bowl want to get the most revenue not put the best game on the field. I'm not only knocking Notre Dame hear but I definitely do feel that they get an unfair advantage in the BCS and other teams also either get hurt or helped by a biased system. Why not just have a playoff system so we don't end up having these stupid debates once a week?

See that's what I don't get...everyone seems to know it yet for some reason nothing ever changes.
