After all the success he's had with the team, I think their offer was pretty much a slap in the face.  I mean the money isn't bad at all...I'd love to get  paid that.  But it's the fact that they were only gonna renew his contract for another year that I think was the real slap in the face.

I wouldn't call it a slap in the face, sometimes you need to change things up in order to get results. They still offered him $1.5 million more as a base salary then any other manager, and on top of that another $1 million for each round of the playoffs that he made. With the kind of talent that that team had I feel like I would have been able to bring them into the playoffs and for the Yankees that just isn't enough, you need to win World Series. I think they wanted to see if Torre still has it and a 1 year contract is a good way to test him.
