Do you think its fair for a professor to take points off your final grade if you miss a certain number of classes?  I have a few professors that say if you miss X amount of classes you will go down 1 grade.  I even have one that says if you miss 3 classes you automatically fail.

My personal opinion, is that I'm the one paying to go there.  If I want to miss a few classes thats my decision.

I agree, like I said in the other thread about attendance policies...this isn't high school anymore.  College is for big boys and girls, if we miss class, that's our problem.  If you do bad on exams and/or never hand in assigned homework, then fine...fail me or drop my grade.  But attendance should not change your grade...especially if you do fine on exams and hand in the homework.

yeah i totally agree. the excuse in my school is that i am going to become a teacher and we have to be there when we get our job no matter what, so the practice starts now. lame, cause im paying for college not getting paid to be there.

Most of the time you do better when you show up to class anyway. If a teacher only wants to make notes available to people to show up to class that's fine by me but forcing students to come only makes sense if there are in class projects or group work that needs to be done.
