So I'm searching wikipedia and come across this page on time travel. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_travel The page is huge and goes into detail about whether or not it is possible, plausible, etc. I thought it would make a good topic, so whats everyone's thoughts? Is time travel possible or just science fiction?

I actually watched that whole thing (one hour or so). Its definitely an interesting concept, but they lost me around the time when they moved from the string theory to membrane theory. Going back to what they stated earlier in the show about science not wanting to be associated with ghosts and spirits, they actually give a possible explanation to what may cause apparitions. Considering they said gravity is fundamentally weak (magnet example), and when you watch those ghost hunting shows they always have an EMF detector, it may be that when people claim to see ghosts they are actually seeing a clash between those dimensions.

I don't know for me the problem with time travel is it seems to create more questions at every turn. If you could go back in time then how different would the future become etc etc. For me the interesting thing is that the closer you get to the speed of light the slower time becomes for you (Einstein's Relativity Theory) and so therefore theoretically if you are able to get close the the speed of light in an aircraft for example then time would slow down for you while it would remain the same for everyone else. It's not really time travel but you are altering how quickly you are moving through it.

I don't think its so much going back into time physically. More or less the ability to view the actual events from the past. If you took the theory that someone could actually go into the past and alter events, then why hasn't someone from the future already gone into the past and altered those events?

Well if you're really going to get into the technical aspect then how would you know if someone actually went back in time and did change something.
