If these pictures are from WWII wouldn't we realize if a Japanese plane were flying over the middle of the United States? It's not like they had high flying reconnaissance planes or spy satellites back then.

well that doesn't mean that it could be completely defended from an attack though.  especially with kamakaze (sp?) fighters and what not.

Yea I understand the need of defending from attack but wouldn't a bunker be better suited for that?
