I saw this on youtube. Whatever it is the special effects are very good. Could it possibly be a marketing campaign for Halo 3?

I agree...it definately has to be some kind of marketing ploy. There is no way that kind of footage was shot for real, it looks like an intro to something. And having played the first two Halo games it doesn't seem to be from Halo.
